Al Mercante, meaning “The Merchant”, is a stylish Italian restaurant located in the heart of Copenhagen. The theme here is one of Venetian luxury, the décor punctuated by Venetian masks and Renaissance era prints. The interior is warm reds, golds and whites supplementing the well set dining area, whilst the cocktail bar is slightly more modern, with leather backed stools and marble finished counter.
The restaurant offers Venetian specialties alongside more traditional Italian cuisine. Starters include King Prawns with figs and pine nuts at DKK 129, and also beef Carpaccio with parmesan, lime and pesto oil, also for DKK 129. Usual suspect Insalata Caprese makes an appearance, as does an asparagus salad with balsamic and Parma ham. An interesting risotto option is available with truffles, mushroom caps and chanterelles in white wine and truffle oil sauce for DKK 159.
For the carnivores, there is a wide selection, from veal cooked in truffle oil, to the exquisite grilled calves crown with gorgonzola sauce at DKK 249.
What really sets Al Mercante apart from other Italian restaurants in the region is its dedication to the fluidic gustatory experience. With a selection of over 30 grappas to choose from, there are also multiple, carefully selected wines representing every region of Italy’s finest wine making provinces. To top it off, Denmark’s most decorated cocktail bartenders are residents at Al Mercante here in Bredgade, with a host of contemporary, classic and original cocktails to both start and round off proceedings.
On the weekends, Al Mercante is a lounge, transforming the elegant atmosphere into a late night soiree with DJs providing entertainment for post-dinner dancing.
A perfect blend of specialist Venetian regional cuisine, high class wines and cocktails, and unrivalled ambience and surroundings, make Al Mercante a definite attraction for those eating out in Copenhagen.
