Dan Turell was a quite controversial and extremely popular Danish poet and author who resided in Copenhagen, from 1946 to 1993. He often visited this cafe that now bears his name. As such, Cafe Dan Turell is one of the oldest in Copenhagen with a history of over 25 years. Café Dan Turell is located in the backstreets of Kongens Nytorv square, in the heart of Copenhagen´s center.
The mutual admiration between the poet and the cafe meant that he wasn't charged for his food or drinks, and nowadays you can see his written works decorating the walls of the cafe.
In Cafe Dan Turell you'll find a good mix of early risers on their way to work who stop in for an espresso and a croissant, as well as a younger crowd coming in later who bring liveliness and spirit that softens the edges and gives the place a laid back feel.
Brunch and lunch is available in the daytime, with the Dan Turell Burger coming highly recommended. The Bresaolo sandwich and potatoes and leek soup are also regular favorites.
There is more of a festive atmosphere in the evenings with a lively bar, and in the summer months, tables and chairs are outside, letting you enjoy dinner and drinks al fresco. The food on offer is fairly typical cafe fare, with a good selection of coffees and other drinks.
Cafe Dan Turell is very much an artistic, inspiring place to sit and watch the world go by.
