Cafes
The Carlton is a trendy café and restaurant found opposite the Carlton House Theatre on the Halmtorvet in the Vesterbro district of central Copenhagen.
By day, the café offers brunch platters, which include traditional dishes such as sausage, bacon and eggs alongside more adventurous offerings of potato and root crop terrine. Fruits, cakes and yoghurt also make an appearance, all for DKK 119. The vegetarian option substitutes in falafel and pesto vegetables, ensuring everyone is catered for. The café also offers lunch plates, including options such as herring with capers and onion, plaice meuniere and veal steak, alongside taleggio and comté with an olive tapenade for the gamely price of DKK 139.
By night, the Carlton restaurant offers more innovative cuisine, albeit on a less stacked menu, ranging from lobster gnocchi (DKK 199), to mussels steamed in white wine, with spring onions, paprika and parsley, served with an artichoke aioli (DKK 119).
Whilst the wine list is not exactly extensive, comprising of mostly French and Italian wines, the range of cocktails is. Mojitos, martinis and daiquiris all feature on both the lunch and dinner menus. Prices for Carlton cocktails start at DKK 65.
The interior is well decorated and light, and a calm atmosphere encapsulates the restaurant. The tables are fairly close together, although this only serves to enhance the intimacy of the setting. The café interior consists of steel and wood, with high-backed sofas and chairs. An awning allows patrons to enjoy lunch or dinner outside, regardless of the weather, with blankets and heat lamps to fight off the evening chill.
The intimacy of the venue, accompanied by the location of the Carlton restaurant and café ensures a romantic setting for lunch or dinner.
