Cafes
Sari, in Nytorv public square just off Strøget shopping street in central Copenhagen, is a vibrant and cozy cafe restaurant where the traditional meets the modern. Combining traditional Danish cuisine with a varied international cafe/restaurant style menu, Sari is an excellent place to sit and relax between visiting the nearby tourist spots. The interior reflects this ethos of mixing old and new, with images of old Copenhagen alongside modern and innovative paintings.
The staff at Sari prides themselves on serving excellent food. With an experienced team of chefs and well-trained waiters, visiting Sari is an enjoyable experience. The bartenders, too, are experts in their field and make some great cocktails.
The building the restaurant is located in and the surrounding streets and the adjacent square, are rich in history and tell fascinating stories from Copenhagen's past dating back to 1606 when Nytorv was built on King Christian IV's orders.
The restaurant takes its name from the Copenhagen City Court, which was built in the beginning of the 19th century. A large photograph hangs inside the restaurant showing the old marketplace that used to stand on the square just outside the restaurant's doors in 1910.
The smørrebrød (Danish sandwiches) at Sari are excellent, prepared by chefs with experience at many of Copenhagen's top eateries. Try the Fish filet - with shrimps, caviar and mayonnaise for DKK 89 or the Roast beef - with remoulade, roasted onions, and horseradish for DKK 79. A very generous brunch is on offer for DKK 99 including fruit, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon etc (a vegetation option is available), and is available with a number of sides.
Sari is an excellent place to get some good Danish food if you are passing through Nytorv or Strøget shopping street.
