The Laundromat Cafe - Nørrebro
Copenhagen
Cafes
Located in Elmegade, and sprinkled with a generous dose of Norrebro's retro-chic charm, The Laundromat Cafe is the perfect place to go in Copenhagen if you want incredible lattes while you wait for your clothes to wash. An interesting concept, the Laundromat Cafe is more cafe than laundromat but does feature four large washing and drying machines. More importantly though it is attached to a large and lovingly decorated cafe home to an eclectic mix of locals and travelers.
The Laundromat Cafe opened its doors in Copenhagen in August 2004 with the intention of making a cool place where you could get your washing done, enjoy a coffee, and socialize. Today there are two outlets, one in Nørrebro and one in Østerbro. The owners have created a practical and cozy space which offers over 4000 books, magazines, wireless internet, backgammon, chess... in fact you'll almost wish your washing would take longer so that you had more time to spend here.
There are also showcases on the walls for local young designers to exhibit their creations.
The laundry part of the cafe is open every day until nine in the evening. There are four industrial Electrolux washers and dryers.
The Laundromat Cafe serves a good variety of homemade food and cakes as well as excellent coffee and alcoholic drinks. Try the 'clean brunch' for DKK 128 that features yoghurt, muesli, and healthily-cooked grilled tomatoes and bread, etc. Or, you can have the 'dirty brunch' which is a little more similar to a traditional fry up with bacon etc. although it is still pretty healthy, also for DKK 128.
Even if you haven't got laundry to do, it's worth visiting what many magazines call 'the hippest laundromat in the world.'
