Cykel mageren (MyBikes)
Copenhagen
Danish design
Cykel mageren means bicycle maker. The concept for this shop came from owner Rasmus Gjesing in 1994. He had grown up with a fascination for bicycles in the 80s, when the emphasis was on the quality of build and the durability.
As an adult working in the bicycle industry in Copenhagen, he noticed that the majority of bikes were poor quality, off-the-production-line models with little or no individuality. As a result, he decided to start offering the public hand-made, unique designs. He wanted to make bicycles that were built to last, and really meant something to the person buying it.
Demand soon became high for these quality bikes, and in 1999 a second store was opened. Now the business of making bikes is handled by a team of quality-focused experts in a workshop in the western end of the city (Vesterbro), bringing first-class handmade bicycles to the people of Denmark - and the world. Located in the tranquil pedestrian area of Kongensgade in northern Copenhagen, customers can order bikes and customize the color, shape, accessories, size, etc. Construction usually takes around four to six weeks. Orders can be made over the internet (as well as in person) and the customer is kept informed all the way through the process.
The end result is a bicycle that is built to last a lifetime, which you can really enjoy and cherish. These bikes aren't cheap, but they are painstakingly hand-crafted and certainly offer something different to the norm. Drop by if you are a fan of Danish design, functionality or of course, bicycles.
