Family fun
The Experimentarium, located in Hellerup (a suburb of Copenhagen), is a place where anybody (in particular, children and young people) can get a hands on, interactive and fun experience that teaches them about science, nature and technology.
The key is in making learning fun. Originating in the United States, the concept of a science centre is create a social and cultural venue at which people can be able to learn and be entertained irrespective of their background, based on visitors’ active participation, experimentation and discovery.
In simple terms, visitors are encouraged to interact with the exhibits and discover for themselves the outcomes of experiments and predictions, and learn through fun and hands-on experience.
There are almost 300 exhibitions on offer in the main exhibition hall, ranging from 'Energy', where you can learn about what energy really is and where it comes from, to making triangular or square soap bubbles, to the popular Gallery of Perception where your senses will be tested by a series of optical illusions. There are also ever-changing temporary exhibitions to keep up with the latest developments in science and technology.
Shows and demonstrations provide daily educational entertainment with fascinating physics experiments, a dynamic rocket show and an unbelievable bubble show.
The average length of a visit is four hours but you are of course allowed to stay as long as you like. Kids under two go free, up to 11 years are DKK 97, and kids older than that--and adults--are DKK 148. There is parking on site however many buses and trains stop virtually outside the centre's door. There is an onsite cafe serving quality snacks and coffees.
