The David Collection
Copenhagen
Museums
The David Collection, located in Copenhagen on Kronprinsessegade and near Rosenborg Castle, is a museum of fine and applied art.
Of particular note is the museum's collection of Islamic art from the 8th to the 19th century--one of the largest in Europe. The David collection also holds some fine pieces from the Danish Golden Age in the early 1800s.
The David Collection is housed in the building once owned by the museum's founder, Christian Ludvig David, and dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. The museum was renovated in 2005 and 2009 and is now a fully modern museum with an excellently preserved heritage.
There are three permanent collections curated by the David Collection: the Collection of Islamic Art, the Collection of European 18th-Century Art, and the Collection of Danish Early Modern Art. The Islamic art collection is particularly comprehensive.
There are special events and exhibitions held at the museum, as well as documentary screenings on various historical topics. A number of activities for children are also available.
Because of the nature of the building, with extensive staircases, wheelchair users may have a tough time getting around.
Audio guides and guided tours are available, and admission is free.
